How is the Job Market Really Trending?
An Executive Recruiter’s Perspective
Executive recruiters have a unique pulse on the job market and, by extension, the economy. Why?
Their job is to speak with Hiring Managers and candidates from various companies in any industry, on a daily basis.
This gives them insights into hiring trends in real-time as opposed to… less reliable and often outdated reports.
We currently navigate uncertain times. With tech giants like Amazon, Meta, and Twitter making headlines with massive layoffs, it is easy for a “domino effect” reaction to happen. Some companies already have announced hiring freezes, taking a more cautious stance as they enter 2023.
However, from my perspective as an executive recruiter, I remain optimistic overall.
This is the strongest metric I adhere to: Are we in (A) an employer market, where good opportunities are scarce, and candidates will make lateral or sometimes lower compensation moves; Or (B) in a candidate market, where any good candidate has at least 2-3 other offers and holds the negotiating power.
The latter has been the case for some time now and I have not seen ANY indication of it slowing.
My advice: Keep hiring and growing your business. If you need help with your executive search needs, call us for a complimentary consultation.
